Paper Chinese Dragon Rubbings
The 4th Grade Students had so much creative fun making their multi-stepped dragons!
First, we explored the traditions of the Chinese People as they prepare for their coming new year. We discussed how dragons are very important to the Asian culture to scare off evil spirits. Then we made our own paper by rubbing a crayon over the paper while it was on a textured surface. The next step was to water color paint over the paper and watch where the "resist" of the wax crayon was....no water color would penetrate the paper surface.
Then the students drew and cut the dragons body and head from the homemade paper and decorated the dragon with cut color paper scraps! A-MAZING!!
I was especially impressed with the 4th Graders because many of them handled my "3D Paper Engineering Challenge" with all the grace of college graduates!!
Ask them what makes their dragon 3D!
