THIRD GRADE
Native American Tapestry
This past Autumn, the Third Grade Students explored Michigan's Native American Culture.
We then made our own visual language to describe modern day symbols...I wonder what the Chippewa peoples would make of our symbols for pizza, iPods and nail polish!?
The students then created their own Native American Tapestry. They were required to include a woven portion, a sewn portion, a fringe portion on the edge and cut leather; in addition to their personally designed symbol drawing.
Well done Gang!

(A special thank you to all the parent donations throughout the year..especially the LEATHER SAMPLE PIECES!! You are so kind to share! God Bless.)
Notice the leather pieces...the eyes and mouth in the above tapestry.
